A New Un-Cruise Adventure is Born
As an adventure-minded traveler, we know that you will embrace this brand new approach to cruising. Our inaugural voyage brought reactions of absolute pleasure as our guests were impressed with the quality of the cruise, the variety of adventure, the vigorous and challenging kayaking & hiking experiences, tide pool snorkeling and glacial ice floe paddle boarding. Nature set the tone and we embraced it. Said one of our test-travelers, Ellen Barone, traveler writer on her Blog page:

Our Inaugural Trip Surprises and Delights!

“On my travels as an adventure writer I can truly say "my cup has runneth over" with incredible trips to wildly beautiful destinations. The SE Alaska Inside Passage cruise with InnerSea Discoveries ranks as one of the best. The small ship provided an intimate experience to share the wonders of whale sightings, kayaking adventures, and other discoveries with fellow passengers each day. To interact with the wild beauty of Alaska in such a capacity while anchoring at remote island locations resonated with my adventurous desire to get off the beaten tourist's track. It felt as if we were the sole voyageurs cruising along the Inside Passage. InnerSea Discoveries provides a unique and rewarding experience for travelers seeking to get up close and personal with the culture and wild beauty of Alaska.”

“The InnerSea Discoveries Eastern Coves trip fulfilled a life’s dream for me. It was an exploration from sea and land. The level of activities, the amazing wildlife and the stellar crew made this journey a trip to remember forever.”

“I recently had the pleasure of taking a small adventure cruise with InnerSea Discoveries ... and what a trip it was! Everything was first class, from the fabulous food, super comfy accommodations, attentive and enthusiastic staff, and exciting expeditions. No detail was left undone. As a worldly traveler, I know great service when I experience it and this cruise experience was ‘over the top.’ My expectations were both anticipated and exceeded. I was particularly impressed with the quality and attention paid to the adventure gear required to thoroughly enjoy each and every expedition. The crew was knowledgeable about cruising, nature, and the history of each port we visited. They clearly had done their homework which made for a very educational and enjoyable time. Whether you are old, young, new to cruising or an experienced cruiser, this is a trip not to be missed!”

“Innerseas Discoveries is a wonderful product – to be able to experience true Alaskan wilderness with so many activities catering to individual desires and fitness levels and to be able to come together in the evening to share the different highlights of the day with a drink and a laugh creates special bonds amongst fellow travelers – these moments last a lifetime!. ”

“My trip with InnerSea Discoveries was hands down, the best trip I’ve ever taken!!! The cruise was almost too wonderful for words. The activities were there if you wanted them… and so were the comfy deck chairs and the hot tub if you didn’t. I have to admit that I was more than a bit frightened about climbing into a kayak, but Kevin’s demonstration in the lounge the first evening gave me more confidence and after watching others kayak for a while….I got up the courage to take a chance. Kayaking was peaceful and beautiful and not at all frightening.”

“One thing that kept running through my mind is that it felt like I was the first one to be doing and seeing these things. For instance, that no one ever before had kayaked in Alaska and then bunked up on a random island in the middle of nowhere with beer, wine and amazing food. Or that no one had ever sat in the quiet of their kayak just listening to the whale blows or watching a whale surface. When we did our kayaking and overnight trip, we had a group of seals follow us off and on. They felt like our guardian angels just quietly hanging in the distance, making sure all was going okay. The entire trip felt magical!”

“InnerSea Discoveries is an 'un-cruise' and gave me one of the most incredible travel experiences of my life. The ships are cozy home bases that provide comfort within the wilderness and platforms from which to experience wildlife and nature up-close and personal.
No tourist-clogged ports of call on these voyages; you begin and end nearly every day out in the wilderness, saying goodnight to the whales in Frederick Sound and greeting the sun next to a glacier the following day.
On each itinerary, visits are made to either Wrangell or Klawock due to the rich cultural heritage of the native Tlingit people that flourishes in each location – an essential component to any quality experience in this part of the world. Flexibility and options are the name of the game and you’ll never encounter long lines or a tight schedule as the philosophy is to let wildlife and nature chart the course. We experienced unsurpassed immersion in what some consider the “Real Alaska.” As Expedition Leader/Naturalist Kevin Martin put it on the first night, InnerSea Discoveries is “about experiencing what’s beautiful outside, understanding how it makes you feel on the inside, and trying to bridge the two together.”
A 'rather ambitious hike' involved spending six hours climbing through the Tongass National Forest – over landslides, under fallen Sitka spruces, up cascading falls and even across mountain lakes aided by two row boats that belonged to the Forest Service. Challenging, but to a lover of the outdoors, pure heaven.
A favorite afternoon of mine was spent in Misty Fjords National Monument, paddle boarding around in solitude and peering through the clear water at the seals and fish below while soaring waterfalls tumbled down the sheer rock walls all around me.
I’ve been lucky to lead a charmed existence, with twenty-six years full of globe trotting and adventures across nearly thirty countries. Travel is my absolute passion and I prefer independent land travel over groups or boats. But this wasn’t a cruise by any stretch of the word – it was an exploration, an adventure made possible by water, one of the most amazing I’ve ever had and I can’t wait to reunite with my fellow explorers, many of whom became fast friends. And if money and time were no object, I would have rebooked immediately for the following week after that last night aboard, sailing into Ketchikan accompanied by the orcas.”
